CMU First Year Study

This study is actively recruiting.

Dr. Jannie Dutcher and Dr. David Creswell are conducting a study designed to see if stress management programs delivered via mobile apps can improve student outcomes and sense of wellbeing.

If you join, you'll:

  • Complete online surveys at the beginning and end of the Spring 2026 semester about your thoughts and feelings

  • Wear a research-provided fitness tracker for the Spring 2026 semester

  • Complete a 14-day digital training program on your smartphone, with each lesson lasting between 15-20 minutes

  • Complete brief daily check-ins 7 days before and after the program

The whole study lasts about 5 months during Spring 2026, and you can earn up to $170 and keep the provided Fitbit for completing everything.

​

To be eligible, you need to be:

  • A full-time first year student at CMU

  • 18 years or older

  • Have a data-enabled smartphone

  • Be on campus for the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters
